Two scenes from the 1982 World Cup in Spain: Geoff Giles (Melboro), in action against France and Spanish Superstar, Paco Diaz curling a typical goal to beat West German goalie Meisner...
fantastic!!!! what a World Cup! Paco Diaz, Pancho Miller, Geoff Giles, Zardelli, Gruber, Duncan McKay.... any chance for the whole stories of Spain-WGermany and England-France?
Here's my England squad for the 1982 World Cup (remember Rovers were in the 2nd Division so many of the players would have been overlooked)
G: Andy Watson (Danefield), Len Coburn (Stambridge), Don Wilson (Blackport)
D: Danny Churchill, Johnny Dexter (Both Danefield), Jim Duke, Terry Marks (Both Kingsbay), Peter Thompson (Walford)
M: Geoff Giles (Melboro), Johnny Barret, Dave Henning, Terry Brand (All Oldfield), Mike Bateson, Nipper Lawrence (England), Jimmy Slade (Melchester), Terry Martin (Portdean), Carl Hunt (Carford)
F: Kevin Keegan (Southampton), Trevor Francis (Manchester City), Kenny Johnson (Redstoke), Steve Marks (Kingsbay), Kevin Taylor (Danefield)
I have included two players from the Real World (Francis and Keegan). Both appeared in RotR, Keegan in the background in the 82 Summer Special and Francis in the famous 1978 match v Holland.
does it make sense if u include them in the roster as they would be with the real england in spain? but rotr mentioned bobby robson as the england manager for mexico wc so maybe it doesnt matter. best thing is to use the roy s dream wc final line up (vs argentina) if u ever illustrate the france vs england match
The problem is that Roy says, "It would be great to have been out there with the lads. It's another World Cup I've missed..."
Keegan didn't play against France in the real match so he wouldn't be in the team. Trevor Francis did, but as he appeared for England alongside Roy in the 1978 match against Holland, it fits with the RotR storyline.
The line-up I have is:
Watson Churchill - Dexter - T.Marks - Duke Giles - Hunt - Bateson Francis - Taylor - S.Marks
But I can never be sure on the team until I start making the story. Sometimes some things are not possible. I may not use the Marks Brothers because I have only a few heads, I have used a young Steve Naylor for Steve and a hooligan with an afro for Terry in experiments but these may not be recognisable enough for a proper story.
Actually having re-read the 82 Dream again the goalie looks a lot like Ray Bailey of Kingsbay (from Marks Brothers story). So he will my goalie.
