The Safest Hands in Soccer 1980

Gordon Stewart was a phenomenal goalkeeper for Tynefield City in the Second Division. With scores of Scotland caps and a natural ability to make the most simple of saves look spectacular it was a surprise that Gordon never signed for a top club. He had the opportunity and even Roy Race considered signing him up, but he stayed on at City.

This is a great story (from the 1980 ROTR Annual) for fans of goalkeeping, but also great for lovers of fictional football databases (you know who you are!). If anyone has a bigger list of Tynefield City opponents please use the comments section below. And as always a nice list of City players would be great!

  1. Do you remember the one where they had a floor of little pyramids on the ground which the coach would volley onto, so it would ricochet and he didn't know which way the ball was going?

    1. I do remember that. But I thought that was a Rick Stewart story. I could well be wrong.

  2. My favourite story and character. I guess that's why I was a keeper as a kid
