Gordon Stewart was a phenomenal goalkeeper for Tynefield City in the Second Division. With scores of Scotland caps and a natural ability to make the most simple of saves look spectacular it was a surprise that Gordon never signed for a top club. He had the opportunity and even Roy Race considered signing him up, but he stayed on at City.
This is a great story (from the 1980 ROTR Annual) for fans of goalkeeping, but also great for lovers of fictional football databases (you know who you are!). If anyone has a bigger list of Tynefield City opponents please use the comments section below. And as always a nice list of City players would be great!

Do you remember the one where they had a floor of little pyramids on the ground which the coach would volley onto, so it would ricochet and he didn't know which way the ball was going?
ReplyDeleteI do remember that. But I thought that was a Rick Stewart story. I could well be wrong.
DeleteMy favourite story and character. I guess that's why I was a keeper as a kid
