1964/65 Season Review

Melchester Rovers shocked English football by signing up Lord D'Arcy Plantagenet Trudgeon-Marclay, better known as Jumbo Trudgeon, with one newspaper asking if the transfer was "a joke." But, it was no joke and the multi-millionaire peer began his Rovers career at inside left by scoring a spectacular hat-trick.

Rovers topped the table before an unfortunate event saw the pitch subside during a home match against Silford Athletic. Luckily for the Rovers, Jumbo swiftly purchased an out of use stadium at Pellfield for their temporary home. However, this new stadium proved to be home to a whole host of ghostly footballers, which terrified the Rovers. As usual, it proved nothing to worry about, the former owners of the site had been playing a clever trick with projectors and old soccer footage, with the intent of forcing Trudgeon to sell them the land back for it had significantly increased in value.

Jumbo used the funds from the unexpected sale to restore Melchester Stadium and the Rovers returned home to thrash Highwood Athletic.

Wonderman wasn't just a great forward

The second half of the season, saw the emergence of one of the greatest footballers ever seen, Harold Mann, better known as "Wonderman". An orphan bred to be  the best allround ball player to grace the First Division, Mann was snapped up by Ben Galloway after a chance meeting near his forest dwelling. Mann was brought into the team when Jumbo went overseas on business and made an astonishing impact.

But all was not as it seems, for Mann's uncle and manager was determined to make Harold captain of the Rovers at the expense of Roy. Tricks abound, but eventually the scheme was exposed. The Rovers fans were dishusted, their new hero turned out to be a crook. Mann was chased off at half time of the FA Cup quarter final match. Roy and co. had solved another mystery!
