Season Review 1977/78

After the record-breaking season of 1976/77 Roy Race was really hoping to push-on and challenge on all fronts. However an indifferent start to the season saw Rovers off the pace early-on. Then a series of superb results saw Roy offered the opportunity to manage England against Holland. But his own form dipped, particularly in the period before he decided to commit to Rovers.

While their form in the league was patchy, Rovers were flying in the European Cup, beating Swedish Champions, Zalmo, Vrayonne Rapide (France) and the holders from Italy - Dorino.

So Rovers season would climax in the European Cup Final against the mighty Alkhoven, captained by Johan Seegrun. In an end to end match of great quality and class Rovers were defeated 3 - 2 and the season ended trophy-less.
