Bobby of the Blues - Everpool

These four pages are from the 1973 Scorcher Annual. I'm interested in finding more out about Everpool. Any links or information would be greatly appreciated. I've got a big long list of players, but don't know enough about them or the club to confidently reference them in my stories, which I know would be popular. Please use the comments if you can help. Players, formations, line-ups, honours, managers anything would be great...

  2. Ted Anderson was gk for 72/3 season, 2 Harry Winter 3 Dave Eastman 4 Alan Baker 5 Mike Sutton and, on his retirement Colin Jones 6 Simon Boswell 7 Tommy Keston 8 Peter Pitt 9 Bobby Booth 10 Don Westlake 11 Roger Hawkins 12 Norman Flint, another player was Nicky Hart who moved to Merseaport at the start of 73/4, he was a reserve who, i think featured more in earlier season, I believe most of the team were youngsters who came into the team at the start of 72/3 except Booth, Keston & Sutton, The Scorcher strips had their own continuity which wasn't inked to Tiger but was quite internally consistent, I think both Everpool and Melchester won the league in 71/2! The teams in Bobby of the Blues also played in Jack & Jimmy and Nipper, teams included Oldcastle, Brookburn, Crampton Utd, Brompton, Parkside, Oakmill, Chaggerton, Thamesbank, Putsbrough and Harford and their main rivals were Merseaport

  3. A couple of follow up questions: 1) Any idea on nationality, was Jones Welsh, and Scots or Irishman? 2) Can you identify the players not named in the images, like the blond bloke on page 4?

  4. 1)Colin Baker was Welsh 2)I remember another player called Sniles (around 1972) but not sure if that was the blonde bloke.
Do u remember this striker John Harris? He played while Sutton was active and Crosby the manager. On the ROTR Annual of 1980 Everpool referred as reigning European Champions (i think in Nipper's story)

  5. I can't remember nationalities being mentioned myself, they were pretty muchthe usual comic book stereotype at that time (Jones Welsh, McKay Scottish, O'Neill Irish etc) so i imagine so, I only started reading it around the time Mike Sutton retired so can't remember John Harris but I do have almost all the earlier comics so can check any specifics if you need them, just no time to actually red them lol, in fact if you have an e mail address Storky i have something you may like.....

  9. Thanks so much for the comments. I have 29 Everpool players in my database, most with positions and numbers. I really would like to match names to faces. I have a new way to convert the blue/black faces to colour ROTR and want to do a Everpool, Danefield, Blackport and Rovers crossover story set in about 1977. I made an error in my 1982 WC story, where I confused Danefield's Alistair Stewart with Bob Baker, I don't want to make similar mistakes again!

  10. Two simple questions:
    1) Bobby Booth, what year did he make his debut and when did he become player-manager (he did do this?)? When did he retire or leave Everpool, if he did?
    2) The goalie; I have a Ted Henderson from a source that I can't find, is this a typo? I know Ted Anderson was number one, did a Henderson exist (I think he probably did not!)?

I try to source all the players in my database but only started doing this after I found all my Everpool players. I'll post my list on Monday with the second half of this story so you two can help me complete it.

    Thanks again!

  11. Bobby Booth will have made his debut in 1970 when Scorcher started, the first issue i have is from 14 Feb 1970 and is the 4th or 5th one and he is making his debut then having being thrust into the team after signing as a schoolboy international, upsetting regular reserve Bert Snyldes, I think he became player manager towards the end o the run and i believe was still doing so when Scorcher merged with Tiger in late 74 and the story stopped

I imagine Henderson is a typo

You can convert them to colour with a colour overlay in photoshop by adjusting the blending mode

    1. Last Qs for now; usual formation and confirmation of positions.

I use an "underlay" with a blank face using the ROTR palette and then the same with the hair, I will only use the heads so this simple way works great. I don't do many things the proper way in Photoshop!

There's an example I just made on the Twitter, Keston in ROTR style...

  12. That works just as well! COlourising stuff is a major pain

I don't recall a formation ever been written but it was early seventies so 4 2 4 would seem likely,
